Biography
The Aurelia Saxophone Quartet was founded in Rome, Italy, by four young dutchmen in 1982. Since then the quartet has travelled all over the world, recorded over ten CDs, premiered around a hundred works dedicated to the quartet and worked together with artists from all disciplines. The Aurelia is a source of inspiration for many young musicians around the globe.

It is a long awaited moment for this world class saxophonists: Aurelia Saxophone Quartet & Branford Marsalis mark their musical friendship with two unique concerts in Paradiso Amsterdam on 23 April and Muziekcentrum Enschede on 24 April.

The world famous American saxophonist Branford Marsalis played as a jazz saxophonist with Art Blakey, Clark Terry, Miles Davis and Sting. In Buckshot LeFonque he goes looking for the combination of rhythm & blues, hip hop and rock 'n' roll to end the essence of the classic tunes. Inevitably he crosses the road in this quest of the Aurelia Saxophone Quartet, an ensemble that over thirty years, as a global measure of classical saxophone music is considered. From its founding in 1982, locates this saxophone quartet for new ways to the repertoire for saxophone expand. Thus, the four musicians of the string quartets of Ravel and Debussy and took this as saxophonists first ensemble tango by Piazzolla to the Netherlands.

World premieres & afterparty
It promises to be a festive programming with world premieres written by famous composers from different backgrounds and specializations: Peter-Jan Wagemans, Jacob Ter Veldhuis, Dick the Count, Sally Beamish, David Dramm and Perry Goldstein. In addition, his compositions can be heard from trombonist Ilja Reijngoud, saxophonist Catherine Thomson and saxophonist Philippe Geiss. In the second part the afterparty bursts loose with cooperation of other bassist Ruud Ouwehand and pianist Mike del Ferro.
